The 10TB Mac mini Snow Leopard Server Project

Hi guys,

maybe some of you were wondering that I’ve written something about Mac OS X Server yesterday. Well, the truth is, that with the 30″ Cinema HD Display, I’ve also ordered a Mac mini Snow Leopard Server. Planned as Media-Station & Server-mixture in the living room, it turned out, that this will not work as expected. But… let me start at the beginning…

Mac OS X Server Software Update Service – if it does NOT work

Mar 03 2010 Published by Dennis Klein under Apple, Mac OS X Server

Hey guys,

I was fighting for 3 days with the Software Update Service that Snow Leopard Server provides to the connected clients. My problem was, that I just get an information, that the server was not reachable. Well, I’m not 100% sure yet, what was the issue, I think I have done 2 mistakes while doing the configuration.

Welcome, 30″ Apple Cinema Display!

Mar 01 2010 Published by Dennis Klein under Apple, Changing Equipment, Design, Overhauling, home office

Hey guys,

last Thursday, I’ve received my new display. After weeks and asking around a hundred people what they recommend, I’ve ordered my next generation display at CyberPort. After scanning the market, I ended up to choose one of the following manufactures: Apple, EIZO, NEC or LaCie. Well, LaCie was way too expensive (about 3.500€ for the 30″). Continue Reading »

Writing my own “WILMA” for the Mac – easier than I thought

Feb 22 2010 Published by Dennis Klein under Apple, AppleScript

Morning!

Since I moved to the Mac I miss only 1 thing really – WILMA. Hu!? What the hell is WILMA you may ask. It’s a pretty cool tool coded for Windows by Stefan Didak that allows you define layouts of your window arrangements. If you are a Windows user and use at least 2 displays, I would highly recommend to use WILMA ;)

Das Grundlagenbuch zu Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard

Snow Leo Book

Servus!

Na?

Podcast #6 Intel X25 G2 SSD in my MacBook

Good morning!

I’ve just released episode #6 of my Klein² Podcast. The topic is the installation of an Intel X25 G2 Postville 80GB SSD into my MacBook. The Podcast is a bit longer – 24:24min exactly. It covers the complete installation process incl. upgrading the SSDs firmware to the current version (which is recommended). Also, a benchmark is included.

Networking horror

Feb 02 2010 Published by Dennis Klein under Apple, Changing Equipment, Company related, Linux, Network

Good evening,

after some days of silence, I think it makes sense to explain what happend.

First of all: I’ve launched my business “dennisklein.eu” successfully on Monday ;) So – great to be back to my own business.

But let me scroll back a few days. The last time, I’ve told you, that I’ve moved to a new ISP, called VirtualBots. They had a nice offer to testdrive the vServer for 30 days. I was impressed, grabbed one package and asked them if it’s possible to upgrade with a managed software. They wanted to do the management and installed Confixx (by Parallels) for me. This thing worked smooth and nice, with some rough corners. For example the security of the Apache was not as I hoped, I could not even install phpSysInfo (and who knows me KNOWS that I love phpSysInfo!). I was nearly finished moving most of my websites to the new server (which now costed 60€ instead of 19€ monthly, which is a fair price) – the main server dropped off. Nothing. Silence. OF COURSE, my old webserver decided to do the same at this morning. So – nothing worked. No mail, no website. I was able to restart my olden goldie webserver at Server4You with a remote hard-reset. And it was back. Of course – broken and need to be replaced pretty soon.

The iPhone as remote-control and as blog-editor

Jan 13 2010 Published by Dennis Klein under Apple

I was trying two things while doing this post. First: Playing with the new AirPort Express, remotely controlling my MacBook in the Office, but listening to the music in the kitchen. Works fantastic!

The second thing I wanted to try: Creating a post from my iPhone and uploading a photo + including it. What should I say? Seems like it works, hu? ;) – I’ve used the free WordPress App to do this.
